Working in the Media Industry

Needing to think about my future after my education, potential careers within the field of interest has been researched. With help from the official Gov.UK website, a list of all of the creative-related jobs had been listed allowing me to go through and pick out the ones that had interested me by first glance.

Going with four options, by the end of researching them all I was left with two career options I would want to work towards having as my own career. Going with a film/TV director and a screenwriter, I will now be looking into nearby job vacancies for the two roles, and the platforms offering these opportunities.

Looking at five different websites, the results became repetitive really allowing me to come to a conclusion with this subject matter.

An everyday job site is rarely, if ever, going to have something for someone wanting to be a part of the film industry. At least not with my case thinking about what it is that I am wanting to move on to do. Focusing on education and freelancing is the best way to go when starting off, as well as working on your own projects.

Transferable skills are a key factor in getting to where you want in the industry. Then depending on what it is one is wanting to focus on, elements within that interest could also be a key to knowing or even learning giving you that experience.

Another thing, it is going to be harder to find a role close by so travelling may be a necessity with most job listings coming from areas such as London.

Done with that now, my next and final sector to research is apprenticeships.

Not having much of my attention as it is university I am wanting to go to next, something about this research has stuck out to me that connects all the three different paths.

It is passion they all look for. And with passion, as it appears, that will get you anywhere whether that be an apprenticeship as you step into the industry, getting onto the course your after or even diving straight into a career. For all of them, the application forms make it clear that they want to see the passion that brings each student there.

As of that, I'd like to believe that I do have that passion for film, and can only hope that it continues to grow as I head more and more into my future.
