Showreel design

As a method to showcase my previous projects, a showreel is in the making. But before I can even make a start, I must research into the product and find what will draw the attention of potential customers and employers, and what to steer away from doing.

With more knowledge on creating a showreel now, I am now able to make a start on my own product.

With plenty to patch up, for the next draft I will be working on adjusting the clips, extending them and even adding a few more bits of footage. Transitions will also be a focus as well as the title cards.
Ignoring the title cards for now, with this draft I ended up focusing more on the clips themselves. With finding more footage to include other shots had been adjusted to the music, extended and removed leaving me with what I have now.

Not done yet, a third draft is needed.
With no more corrections I have in mind, what I have so far has been sent around to ten people whom I am currently waiting on for their feedback. Talking about the feedback in the post documenting the process I am not going to waste time repeating it again here.

Using that feedback, here is my final outcome:
Thanks to all of the lovely feedback, I was able to patch up the missing elements to the reel and give the audience something they can enjoy more. Unfortunately with the odd comment of switching the music out as such I couldn't really do with that being only one person out of the six who replied when the the other participants said they enjoyed the audio chosen.

As for the PowerPoint that had documented the whole production of this and also has the feedback to the third draft:

As a result, I am quite pleased with the product I have managed to create. Yes it could have been better, but that will progress the same as I do.

Updating this quickly, I was rewatching the most recent showreel and had found a little mistake I am wanting to quickly fix.

The black borders at either side of the intro.  It would be acceptable if the rest of the footage had that, but they don't. They all fill up the space.
And not just that, but the highlight effect that moves to the beat of the soundtrack, that even covers the black border making it more obvious.

As you can see here in a screen capture of the effect in motion.
Going back to DaVinci Resolve, I will be adjusting the opening sequence creating a second, final product.

With my concern of this being me deleting the draft, luckily that is not the case. The only issue I do have right now though... is having to find all of the footage again with the files being removed from the laptop's drive after I had though I was done. Well, maybe not all the footage is gone as I still have the clips from the grey lady short film. Other than that it is all in need of restoring.

Just realising though, the flash mob will be another easy one to restore again still having the draft on the DaVinci software.

And as I am trying to fix this issue, the software is wanting to make this more difficult for my by continuously shutting itself down two minutes after I open it up.

Turns out I was wrong about the flash mob idea, not having it exported anymore those files have also been removed. But I have managed to find the audio used having that restored now.

Finding the location of my download history, I am now looking into using that as a way to get everything back.

Not working out how I hoped, it seems that I am having to leave it as it is... for now at least. If I am able to I will come back to this. Or even if I have to I might as well remake it.

You know, like with art when you create something and at first sight it results the best thing you have ever seen. You believe it deserves to be hung up in a museum knowing people would want to come from all over the world just to see that piece of work. But then you leave it alone, come back to it and it is the worst thing you have ever seen... Yeah well that has just happened making me want to scrap the whole showreel, and start from scratch only keeping the concept.

Going through the process of downloading every video file I can find now, fingers crossed a much more improved result will come of this.

Opening up a new project on DaVinci, I am unsure of how but somehow this has allowed me to use the original outcome of my showreel no issue... So I guess it isn't completely lost, but that doesn't really matter now as I will be redoing it with a new PowerPoint document as well to share the process of what I will have gone through to get the result I will soon be able to share.

Having the updated product ready now, here is the link to the new and improved, (I hope) showreel.

At an extended fifty-five second duration, a lot more had went into creating this piece as you will be able to see in the PowerPoint documenting the process.

Much happier with this product, I did show the final outcome to one other who claimed to enjoy the result which is a note I am happy to leave this on.
